CASINO ROYALE Movie Locations – Bohemia meets the Bahamas

The white sands of the Bahamas and the lush greens of the Czech Republic: Daniel Craig’s first adventure as James Bond brings him around the world. These are the Casino Royale movie locations.

Daniel Craig gets introduced as the new Bond in Casino Royale. He fights in Madagascar and Montenegro, but filming took place in the Bahamas and the Czech Republic. And Miami is now in Europe.

Here are all Casino Royale movie locations in the Bahamas, Czech Republic, Italy and the UK:

BAHAMAS

The intense opening scene at the construction site was not filmed in Madagascar – but at Coral Harbor in the southeast of Bahamian main island New Providence. The area belongs to the Bahamas Royal Airforce, one of the buildings doubled for Bonds hotel in Thunderball back in the days – a never finished hotel construction now was the site for the parkour chase.
The snake pit scene was filmed some meters to the east at an abandoned pool. The Nambutu embassy is in reality the John Watling’s Distillery in downtown Nassau.

Casino Royale movie locations: Solange at the One & Only Ocean Club

Later in the movie, Bonds visits New Providence for real. He encounters small-fry arms dealer Dimitrios (Simon Abkarian) at the One & Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island. Later on he meets with his wife Solange in the very exclusive Albany House on the south shore of New Providence. This is also the spot, where Bonds emerges out of the ocean bulldog-style.

CZECH REPUBLIC

The black-and-white-scene where Bond gets his 00-status was filmed at the Danube House in Prague. Later on, the Czech capital doubled for various places in Miami and Italy.
The National Museum’s lobby stands for the hotel in Venice. The “Body World” exhibition in Miami has its exteriors from the Ministry of Transport in the city center, and interiors from the Vitkov Monument, on the hill between Zizkov and Karlin. The Prague International Airport doubles for the Miami Airport, and the library inside the famous Strahov Monastery is a stand in for the British government hub, M visits in the movie.

Casino Royale movie locations: The picturesque village Loket in Bohemia

The Montenegro scenes also had been filmed in Czech Republic. The small picturesque village, where Bond meets Mathis is Loket in Bohemia, the Casino town then is Karlovy Vary. Bonds “Hotel Splendide” is the Grandhotel Pupp, the casino is the old Kaiserbad Spa just across the street. The train station, where Bond and Vesper (Eva Green) arrive, is the Mill Colonnade in the heart of Karlovy Vary. The driving scene – including the “Ms. Broadchest” talk – had been filmed in the street, that connects the Mill Colonnade with the Grandhotel Pupp.

ITALY

The lakeside sanatorium at which Bond recovers after the torture by Le Chiffre is Villa del Balbianello at the shores of Lake Como. Later on, Bond is also at another villa on that same lake – it is the privately owned Villa la Gaeta, where 007 tracks down Mr. White.
The scenes in Venice had been filmed along Canal Grande between the Accademia and Rialto and at Piazza San Marco, where scenes of Moonraker had been shot some years ago. Bond learns of Vespers treason in the Sotoportego del Cavalletto alley. The collapsing house is on Canal Grande directly opposite the vegetable market Rialto Mercato. The scene was staged at Pinewood, so the real house is still there. Unharmed.

UNITED KINGDOM

Normally, every Bond had numerous scenes filmed in Great Britain. This one is mostly absent, though. Only the Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey had been used – for the Skyfleet action scenes on the Miami Airport. And Black Park near the Pinewood Studios – as a double for the Ugandan jungle camp.

MADAGASCAR, MONTENEGRO, UGANDA & USA

The supposed town in Madagascar is never mentioned in the movie – in reality the scenes where filmed on New Providence, Bahamas. Also, Montenegro never had been a filming place – but the Bohemia towns of Loket and Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. Same goes for most of the Miami scenes, that had been stages in Prague and the UK. Also, the crew never went to Uganda. The supposed town of Mbale in reality was a park just outside of the Pinewood Studios.
