Boys with Toys – the Playmobil Aston Martin DB5

The Aston Martin DB5 is the one car everybody links to James Bond. Rediscovered in the last Daniel Craig films and reinvented by Lego, now also Playmobil takes a turn. Is it worth it?

After the popular Lego Aston Martin DB5, Bond fans can make yet another supply run to the local toy store: the Playmobil Aston Martin DB5 is here!

Probably the most famous car in the world, the DB5 made its first appearance in Goldfinger. Almost thirty years later it reappeared in GoldenEye. In the third Daniel Craig movie Skyfall he pulls it out of retirement, drives it into the sunset after the finale in Spectre – and then goes into full rampage mode in the pre title of No Time To Die.

The Playmobil Aston Martin DB5 set features the iconic version from 1964’s Goldfinger movie alongside characters and accessories from the film: next to Bond you’ll get Auric Goldfinger, Oddjob and a goon from Goldfinger’s factory. Also in the package: four plastic bullions, in case you need some extra cash.

The Playmobil Aston Martin DB5 – with all its details:

The car features a removable roof, to get the figures in, the famous ejector seat, swivelling number plates and the iconic retractable tyre blocks. There is a bulletproof shield at the rear of the vehicle – printed gun shots included. The only things missing are the machine guns hidden in the headlights.

Compared to the Lego version, the Playmobil Aston Martin DB5 – naturally – looks much more sleeker in design. Also the ejactor seat works much easier and smoother. Yet you don’t need much time to assemble the toy. The Lego version with its more than 1000 pieces are a much more enjoyable challenge. But: For a child to get into the 007 cosmos the Lego version is a foolproof and (almost) indestructible option and the perfect gift for growing agents.
