C stands for Corridor

UNITED KINGDOM – London, Freemason’s Hall // Spectre (2015)

A place of secrecy in the heart of London? Perfect for a spy thriller! And Bond isn’t even the only one, who filmed at the Freemason’s Hall.

Why Bond was here
He wasn’t – but his superiors were. MI5 and MI6 merge together, Maximilian Denbigh (Andrew Scott) leads the new joint intelligence service. In addition he is also secretly part of S.P.E.C.T.R.E. and has his own goals in dismantling MI6. He constantly tries to preempt M (Ralph Fiennes), so he makes sure, the latter misses meetings on national security.

How you gonna get there
The corridor from the unmentioned government building C and M have an argument is in reality the Sussex Corridor of the Freemason’s Hall in London. The building at 60 Great Queen Street is the headquarter of the United Grand Lodge of England. It is right in the heart of Covent Garden, with Holborn and Covent Garden as closest tube stations

Good to know
The Freemason’s Hall is a museum and thus open for publicity. However, one cannot roam free in all parts of the building. And the Sussex Corridor, where “Spectre” was filmed? Yes, it is actually off limits. So you will politely have to ask a staff member to show you the place.
Normally the freemasons will be happy to take you for a tour, as the place is filled with movie history. Next to Bond also Puppets and Superheroes came along, as a wide range of blockbuster movies used the scenic halls and corridors for filming. For example, Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” used the Freemason’s Hall as the Illuminati Headquarter, the Muppets made a museum out of it and in the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” the building became the interior of Humma Kavulas spaceship.

Covent Garden is a nice place to breath some London air. You may check out famous restaurant “Rules” or Somerset House, both recognizable Bond locations. Then you may head out for shopping. Or you take some time to actually visit the library and museum in the upper floor of Freemason’s Hall. The free museum has a collection of Masonic artworks, ceremonial objects and regalia and gives a good insight into Freemasonry.
