DR. NO Movie Locations – from London to Jamaica

1962 marked the birth year of an unstoppable franchise – after 60 years, James Bond ist still up and running. The first movie “Dr. No” already established a trademark: filming on exotic locations rather than hanging out at studios.

“Dr. No” is the sixth novel by Ian Fleming, and the Bond author couldn’t have used a better backdrop for writing: Fleming Fleming wrote the book in early 1957 at his Goldeneye estate in Jamaica. And what he saw when looking out of the window – lush mango trees, white sands and turquoise waters – became the scenery of the book. And the movie.
Sean Connery in his first outing as James Bond only briefly visits London, before being assigned on a mission to Jamaica. Thus, almost all Dr. No movie locations can be found on the Caribbean island.

Here are all Dr. No movie locations in Jamaica and the United Kingdom:

JAMAICA

Many Dr. No movie locations can be found in Kingston in the south of the island – and later close to Ocho Rios in the north. The famous opening scene with the “three blind mice” is South Parade Square in Downtown Kingston and in front of Liguanea Club in the heart of Kingston. Bond then arrives at the Norman Manley Airport in Kingston.
He and the chauffeur drive along Norman Manley Highway east of the airport. The scene where he checkmates the driver is at the western part of the road near Port Royal, though.
The government seat is King’s House and “Pussfeller’s Bar”, where Bond meets Quarrel, is at Morgan’s Harbour Hotel. Later on, on his way to Miss Taro’s house in the mountains, Bond takes a turn at Caribbean Cement Company and drives along Portland Parish at the Blue Mountains.

The house itself was suite at the luxury hotel Couples San Souci at Ocho Rios on the northern coast. The room doesn’t exist anymore due to refurbishing – but the hotels exteriors were used again in “Live and Let Die”.

Dr. No’s secret island Crab Key doesn’t exist – it had been filmed along Ocho Rios as well. His factory is the Bauxit Mine at Reynold’s Pier. The beach, where Honeychile famously emerges, is at Laughing Waters at St. Ann Parish – now dubbed “Crab Key Beach”. The scene, where Bond, Honeychile and Quarrel hide, had been filmed at Dunn’s River Falls – and the one, where Bond kills an enemy in the water, is at White River.

UNITED KINGDOM

The introducion scene, where 007 mutters his iconic “Bond, James Bond” while lighting a cigarette was filmed at Pinewood Studios – but it is set to be posh Club les Ambassadeurs in London. The members only club is famed for its casino in the heart of Mayfair. But don’t hope, to just walk in. The premium membership is available for £ 25,000 per year – and only after an intense screening process.
