The Hildebrand Rarity

UNITED KINGDOM – London, “Hildebrand Safe House” // Spectre (2015)

Trafalgar Square is a hotspot of James Bond movie locations. With the Hildebrand Safe House, Spectre added a real conspiratorial one to the list.

Why Bond was here
In Spectre, James Bond (Daniel Craig) hunts down a secret organization led by arch-villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Christopher Waltz). The thought, he destroyed Blofeld in Morocco – but crosses paths with him back in London. To finally finish him and his aides from inside the British government, Bond teams up with M, Q and Moneypenny at the Hildebrand Safe House.

How you gonna get there
The Hildebrand Safe House is a flat at 35 Spring Gardens just next to Trafalgar Square. From the square turn west to Admirality Arch and The Mall. Before you enter The Mall, turn left into Spring Gardens. The Hildebrand Safe House is the building to the left with the black stairs at the wall.
Closest tube station is “Charing Cross Station”. You can reach it with multiple subway lines such as Circle and District (find out more at the London Transport Site). The Skyfall location Embankment Station is also nearby.

Good to know
Trafalgar Square is full of Bond locations – be it the National Gallery, where Bond and Q meet in Skyfall, or the Malaysia House, where Bond has his secret office in The Living Daylights.
After you finished location hunting, make sure to rest at “The Admiralty”, a fine pub at 66 Trafalgar Square. The traditional house is cramped in the evenings, with everybody craving the famous pies and ales.

The name Hildebrand Safe House is a secret nod to one of Ian Fleming’s short stories: “The Hildebrand Rarity”. Which is part of the book For Your Eyes Only: James Bond 007. It is a harsh story about torture and mistrust – maybe the perfect name for a secret service apartment, that nobody should know of.
