What goes Up must come Down

UNITED KINGDOM – London, Broadgate Tower // Skyfall (2012)

One must not travel far to see Shanghai – or Londons Victorian past. The Broadgate Tower offers both.

Why Bond was here
A list with undercover alias from numerous agents got stolen. James Bond (Daniel Craig) hunts down the man behind it, Patrice (Ola Rapace), in Shanghai. In an empty skyscraper both go up, shortly after one comes crashing down.

How you gonna get there
The skyscraper is not in Shanghai, but in London. It is Broadgate Tower in the financial district in the heart of London. It is directly above the train station “Liverpool Street” at Broadgate Plaza. Filming took place at the entry to the building, but not on the upper floors. Look out for the characteristic criss-cross style steel columns and the lobby!

Good to know
If you are in the area, don’t miss the Old Spitalfields Market and its surrounding lanes like Middlesex Street, Artillery Lane and Brick Lane. The area is home to one of Londons most vital creative scenes. You’ll find Banksy graffiti at the walls, hip fashion outlets and rough vendors, who sell their Fish & Chips at the street market.
Always a good choice is the “Ten Bells”, one of the oldest pubs in London. Legend has it, that Jack the Ripper cruised the pub back in the old days to hunt down his victims. It still looks like it is stuck in the Victorian age, but now with great craft beer from the 21th century.

As we lived nearby we liked roaming the streets around Old Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane. If you are into art, watch out for new graffiti – maybe even by Banksy. And if you are into food, visit Israels most famous cook Yotam Ottolenghi who located one of his restaurants right in Spitalfields!
